Homer's epic poems Iliad and Odyssey are commonly taught at the end of first-year Greek, and throughout the second year as well. Virtually all students of the language will work with one or both poems early in their studies. Pamela Draper has here proposed a follow-up to her successful Iliad, Book 1, which is similarly aimed at beginning students. An Odyssey Reader presents the original Greek text together with lexical, grammatical, metrical, historical, and literary annotations, all of which are visible while looking at the text. As with her previous book, the author aims to create editions that make it easier for students to read works in the original language without constantly turning pages or consulting other books to find vocabulary and commentary. Unlike her first book, which contains just one book of the Iliad, this will be made up of selections.

Pamela Draper is Humanities Reference Librarian at R.M. Cooper Library of Clemson University. In addition to Homer: Iliad, Book 1, she is the author of Introduction to Library Research, 3rd edition revised.
