Ordering

General Information

The University of Michigan Press Shopping Cart feature is operated primarily by Perseus Distribution (for print format) and Chicago Distribution Center (for Ebooks). UMP also links out to other e-vendors such as Amazon (for Kindle) and University Press Audio Books (for audio books), among others.

Having different operators for the ordering, processing, and fulfillment of print and Ebook editions means that orders must be placed separately. In all cases, whether you are purchasing a print or an Ebook edition (or other digital edition), you will leave the UMP website.

Please note:

  • Print editions are processed and fulfilled by Perseus Distribution. If using our shopping cart, this means you will leave the University of Michigan Press website to complete your transaction.

  • Transactions through Perseus Distribution will appear as "Perseus Distribution, Inc." on your credit card statement.

  • The "Continue Shopping" link will bring you back to the UMP site to allow you to add additional titles (in print format) to your cart. Ordering Ebook editions requires a separate transaction.

  • The Shopping Cart makes use of cookies, so please make sure that cookies are enabled in your web browser.

  • If part of your order is not yet in stock, your credit card will only be charged for the items in stock; your credit card will be charged for the remaining order when those items are released for shipping. Please refer to the Delivery Policy for more details.

  • As soon as your order is released for shipping you will receive a confirmation email showing your complete order status (including backordered items). Once your order ships, you will receive another email that will include order tracking information. You will receive additional emails when backordered items ship.

Ordering Ebooks

Ebook editions are primarily processed by Chicago Distribution Center (CDC) and fulfilled through BiblioVault.

Please note:

  • Transactions through Chicago Distribution Center will appear as "Books Distribution" on your credit card statement.

  • The "Continue Shopping" link will bring you back to the UMP site to allow you to add additional Ebooks to your cart. Ordering print editions requires a separate transaction.

  • Web orders must be paid by credit card. MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover are accepted.

  • The Shopping Cart makes use of cookies, so please make sure that cookies are enabled in your web browser.

  • When you complete the purchase of an Ebook (through the Chicago Distribution Center), you will receive an order confirmation and a link to download your Ebook. Learn more at the Downloading Your Ebook page.

  • Ebooks make use of Adobe Digital Editions. When you receive your order confirmation and a link to download your Ebook, you will also receive a link to download Digital Editions. Learn more at the Digital Editions page.

  • Adobe Digital Editions is available for PC, Mac, and certain mobile platforms. Visit the Adobe Digital Editions Supported Ebook Devices page for a complete list of e-reader devices that are compatible with the software and their FAQ page for other questions about the software.

  • Ebooks are currently offered under a single-user license, which means that your Ebook can be accessed by using one Adobe ID. Any computer authorized to this Adobe ID will be able to open the file. Learn more at the Adobe ID and Membership FAQ page.

  • If you do not download your Ebook immediately upon the completion of your order, you will be able to do so using the link provided on your confirmation email at any time. Note: UMP links out to several other e-vendors, including Amazon (for Kindle) and University Press Audio Books (for audio books). Please follow the ordering, downloading and troubleshooting information provided on these other sites.

Ordering Policies

  • All mail, fax, and phone orders must be prepaid by credit card (MasterCard, Visa, American Express, or Discover) or check.

  • Web order payments must be made by credit card.

  • Credit cards are charged when your order is shipped.

  • If paying by check, the funds must be in U.S. Dollars and drawn on a U.S. bank.

  • We cannot accept checks for forthcoming titles.

  • All prices are subject to change without notice.

  • Availability information posted on the website is updated periodically; actual inventory may vary.

  • Your contact information will be used only in connection with your order and/or services you request.

  • If, for any reason, you are not completely satisfied with any book, you may return it within ten days for a full refund or charge card credit. For complete return details, please view the Refund Policy. This only refers to print editions. There are no refunds on Ebook orders.

Promotion Codes

If you are ordering from a catalog, flyer, email, or other promotional piece that offers a discount or other offer, check the item for a promotional code (e.g. "UMTH06"). If there is a promotional code, enter this code at the time of checkout to receive the discount or other offer.

Print Orders

To apply promotional codes to print orders, do the following:

  1. Enter the promotional code you wish to apply to the "Enter Promotion Code" field.

  2. Select "Apply." If there is a discount offered on the promotional code, it will be applied and automatically reflected in your total.

  3. Select "Checkout Now."

  4. Follow the remaining checkout instructions and submit your order.

Please note:

  • Only one promotional code may be entered per order.

  • Offers may be valid for a limited time only. Please check the mail piece you received for details.

  • If part of your order is not yet in stock, the entire discount will be applied on the first shipment. Your credit card will only be charged when the items you have ordered are released for shipping. Please refer to the Delivery Policy for more details.

Ebook Orders

To apply promotional codes to Ebook orders, do the following:

  1. Enter the promotional code you wish to apply to the "use promo code" field and hit enter. If a discount is offered on the promotional code, it will be applied and automatically reflected in your total.

  2. Select "Checkout."

  3. Follow the remaining checkout instructions and submit your order.

Please note:

  • Promotional codes for Ebooks can only be applied to orders made through the Chicago Distribution Center and fulfilled through BiblioVault. Promotional codes will not work on Amazon, University Press Audio Books, or other e-vendor sites.
