Crafting Compositions

Tools for Today's Writers
Janet Giannotti
Integrated reading-writing practice for stronger, more confident writers

Description

Crafting Compositions guides students through the entire writing process, with exercises in planning, drafting, responding and revising, and polishing. In each chapter, students will complete free-writing exercises, keep a journal of informal responses, and revise sample compositions. They will also draft, revise, and edit one original composition per chapter.

Crafting Compositions features:

  • Authentic readings to foster vocabulary development, show successful techniques, and serve as a jumping-off point for free writing.
  • A two-track system in which students simultaneously work with the writing of other students as they work on their own compositions.
  • A Learning Log in which students practice and reflect on the writing lessons and tips presented.
  • Toolbox mini-lessons to review common grammar trouble spots.
  • Helpful Shoptalk tips for working through the writing process.

This paragraph-development text is appropriate for high school, community college, or university courses.
