Pitt Series in English as a Second Language
The series began in 1974 with the publication of Developing Communicative Competence, a series that led the way in teaching materials that were communicative in intent and execution. The series was based closely on a seminal article by Christina Bratt Paulston that outlined a graduated sequence of activities to take learners from more mechanical and simple exercises through meaningful exercises and then to communicative ones—a pattern that is evident in books in this series.
